At Kunstschool op Zolder, we offer a variety of courses specially designed to inspire children through hands-on art experiences. Whether your child loves drawing, pottery, sewing, or wants to explore creativity in many ways, we provide a welcoming and supportive space to learn and create. Classes are held in small groups with experienced teachers, ensuring personal attention and lots of fun!

Drawing, Painting & Graphics

For kids who love to bring ideas to life on paper!
This unique course introduces children to the diverse world of visual arts through a variety of materials and techniques. Students will be immersed in the inspiring atmosphere of a real working art studio where creativity thrives every day.

The program is based on the distinctive teaching method developed by artist Anna Volkova, a practicing professional with years of experience. Her approach combines the structure of classical art education with the dynamic spirit of contemporary practice.

Designed for children aged 5 and up, this course encourages young art enthusiasts to express themselves creatively, develop their imagination, and broaden their horizons. Activities include drawing, painting, graphic arts, as well as occasional clay and plasticine modeling, and crafting with wooden pieces and textiles. Children will experiment with various techniques and professional tools in a supportive and playful environment.

Clay Modeling & Mosaic Art

For little hands to explore the magic of clay!
This engaging course for children and teens focuses on creativity and exploration of the endless possibilities offered by clay and mosaic art. Participants will learn essential hand-building pottery techniques such as coil building, pinching, slab construction, and sculpting a variety of forms — from bowls and cups to figures and artistic sculptures.

Clay is used as a versatile medium to create realistic, imaginative, and abstract artworks. Alongside pottery, children are introduced to basic mosaic techniques, working with diverse materials including ceramic tiles, glass, and stones. Students will design and craft ornaments, figures, and portrait pieces in both classical and contemporary styles.

Through the use of professional tools and guided instruction, children develop their own unique artistic style. The course encourages experimentation by combining different materials and techniques, helping each student create personal artworks that reflect their individuality.

Clay and Paint Combo

A creative course combining painting and ceramics to explore diverse artistic techniques and materials.
This unique combined course offers young artists the best of both worlds — painting and ceramics — all in one creative journey. Guided by two expert instructors, each specializing in their own field, children get the opportunity to explore and develop skills in both painting and clay modeling.

The course includes lessons that cover a variety of painting techniques, such as drawing, watercolor, and graphic arts, encouraging imagination and artistic expression with different materials. At the same time, kids dive into the world of ceramics, learning hand-building pottery techniques such as coil building, pinching, slab construction, and sculpting a variety of forms — from bowls and cups to figures and artistic sculptures.

By alternating between these two enriching disciplines, children are exposed to a wide range of artistic methods and materials. This combined format gives them an excellent chance to experiment, discover their favorite techniques, and develop a well-rounded creative practice — all within one course.

Creative Art History + Museums

A hands-on journey through global art and architecture — from ancient temples to modern design.
In this unique course, kids explore art history not just by looking, but by making. Each week, they dive into a new cultural and historical context — from Japanese woodblock prints and Chinese ink painting to Inca textiles, Dutch Golden Age painting, and Bauhaus design.

They’ll draw, sculpt, paint, and build using a wide range of techniques inspired by what they study.

Once a month, the group visits major museums like the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum to experience world-class artworks in person.

Course structure:
  • 3 weekly studio sessions (1.5 hours each)
  • 1 lesson each month takes place in a museum and includes a guided tour led by our teacher, followed by a hands-on creative session inspired by the artworks.

Art meets Science

For curious minds who love to blend art, nature, and science in creative adventures!
This unique interdisciplinary course invites children to discover the powerful connections between science and art through hands-on exploration and creative expression. Each week, students will engage in scientific experiments and art projects that reveal the principles behind light, color, plant biology, geology, chemistry, and geometry.

They’ll conduct classic experiments like the prism to understand the physics of light, analyze the structures of plants and fossils, and explore the chemical makeup of pigments and art materials. Through studying patterns in architecture and the mathematical elegance of the golden ratio, children will gain a deeper understanding of the natural laws that influence artistic design.

Sewing & Soft Toy Making

Bring fabric to life by creating your own toys!
This course invites children to get creative with fabric, learning sewing skills in a playful and engaging way. Starting with simple shapes and basic stitches, they gradually build their skills and confidence.

Kids will sew by hand and also learn to use the sewing machines available in our studio.

They’ll explore embroidery, knitting, patchwork techniques, and much more. Each lesson inspires creativity, fine motor skills, and patience, as children create their own unique fabric projects.

Fashion illustration

From first lines to fabulous looks — design your own style!
This course invites children into the colorful world of fashion design through drawing, painting, collage, and hands-on textile projects.

Step by step, they’ll learn how to sketch fashion figures, develop their own clothing designs, explore color and style, and express their creativity through bold visual choices.

Each session brings a new theme — from stylized illustrations and portrait sketches to designing accessories and experimenting with recycled materials. Students will also get to decorate their own tote bag and gradually build their first mini collection.
